Enquye Negash: "Woody cover and hominin environments"

Talk abstract: Enquye Negash's research is focused on understanding the paleoenvironmental context of human evolution in the Pliocene and Pleistocene. She studies vegetation structure in modern African ecosystems using geochemcial and paleobotanical proxies. Her research aims to apply the knowledge garnered from modern ecosystems to the fossil record to make accurate paleoenvironmental reconstructions. She will be presenting her work focused on studying woody cover in a wide range of modern African savanna to forest ecosystems. She will discuss models used for reconstructing woody cover and will present paleoenvironmental reconstructions for hominin bearing sites in the Omo-Turkana Basin using data from pedogenic carbonates and tooth enamel of fossil herbivores.
