Maria Joana Ferreira da Silva Postdoctoral Researcher (FCT postdoctoral fellow) associated to ICETA-InBIO, University of Porto, Portugal and Cardiff University, UK, since 2013. PhD in Biosciences (2012, University of Cardiff, United Kingdom). Member of the Biodiversity of Deserts and Arid Regions (BIODESERTS) research group of InBIO and the Paleo Primate Project Gorongosa, Mozambique. Uses non-invasive molecular tools and spatial analyses to improve the conservation of West-African primates and to study past admixture in genus 'Homo'. First trip to Africa was in 2004. Works in Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Serra Leone, and Mozambique.
