Primate Conversations with Jason Kamilar - 9th Nov 2021: "Kinda baboons at Kasanka National Park: Past, present, and future"

Talk abstract: Kinda baboons are the most recently recognized baboon species. Although our knowledge of them is relatively limited, they display a suite of morphological and behavioral traits that distinguish themselves from other baboons and provide an excellent study system to examine biological variation across closely related species. In this talk, I will provide: 1) an overview of the behavioral and ecological research conducted on Kinda baboons at Kasanka National Park during the past 10+ years, 2) some new results on baboon infant development and maternal rank, 3) a discussion of future research that we plan to start this winter, which will focus on baboon movement ecology and the transmission of microbes and parasites between the baboons and migratory fruit bats.
